How is Maapera technology affected by cores or samples that have water in them?

Water has substantial effects on the results. Maapera has developed data processing methods that removes the water effects from the spectra. Consistent results regardless of water content can be achieved with this processing method.


How is Maapera technology affected by frozen samples?

The amount of water/ice in the sample affects the results and our preprocessing methods  remove those effects. Otherwise the technology can be used on frozen or unfrozen samples.


Does phase change for Volatiles affect performance at all and if so then how?

Phase change affects the results as with all volatile analysis methods. If the compounds volatilize and are no longer in the sample at the time of analysis, then we will not pick them up. As the light is absorbed by the covalent bonds, as long as those bonds are present in the sample at the time of measurement in some state of matter then they will be detected by the system.


Can the Maapera System Measure BTEX?

The RSAS system can measure higher levels of BTEX but not at detection limits. Aromatic carbon has a strong shortwave infrared response. However, the tier 1 detection limits are extremely low. Our detection limits are high enough to guide closure sampling and to meet situations where pathways to environmental receptors can be excluded.


Can the Maapera system measure salts?

The main NIRS Maapera uses for PHC cannot measure salts directly. Maapera’s RSAS system can measure salts by integrating a dielectric conductivity measurement probe. By combining the dielectric conductivity and NIRS data Maapera can accurately measure salt content of soils.


Can the Maapera system measure PAHs?

The Maapera system can provide a measurement of total PAHs based on the aromatic hydrocarbon adsorption features. The results cannot be broken down into individual specific PAH molecules at this time.


How long does it take to process the data?

Maapera’s commitment is to ensure that data processing is completed in less 2 hours for any submission but in most cases it will be substantially faster. The processing time for vertical profiles and sample concentrations takes less than a half hour. Full 2d and 3d mapping of the site can be completed within the 2 hour time frame.


Can the map data be provided as shapefiles?

Yes, once Maapera is provided a concentration to use for the plume extent, a shapefile can be provided.


What software do I need for the 3d visualization products?

The 3d plots are html objects that can be opened and rotated using any internet browser such as Edge, Firefox or Chrome.
